Personal instruction with Mayda
Adult students bring different reasons for learning: a long-standing interest, a wish to understand music, or the pleasure of playing again. Mayda begins with that motivation and connects it to the foundations that make independent playing possible.
For a new pianist, this means learning to read, coordinate the hands, and hear the shape of a phrase. For a returning player, it may mean revisiting technique, identifying gaps in reading, and choosing repertoire that is challenging without being discouraging.
One-to-one instruction makes room for explanation and questions. You can discuss what is working, what feels difficult, and how to approach the coming week's assignments. Instruction is available in English and Spanish.

Bring an honest picture of the time you can devote to piano. Mayda can help you identify priorities for the week so you know what to work on when you sit down. Consistent practice on an appropriate instrument matters; progress depends on your starting point, goals, and work between lessons.
Use the introductory appointment to share your musical interests and previous experience. If you already play, bring a piece you know so Mayda can hear your starting point and recommend next steps.
Regular lessons are available in 30- or 60-minute sessions. Mayda will contact you personally to arrange the introductory appointment after you send your request.
Before you begin
Yes. Adult beginners are welcome. Lessons can start with the keyboard, basic notation, rhythm, and coordination, then develop at a pace appropriate to your learning needs.
Not necessarily. Mayda can assess what you remember and identify what needs rebuilding. Tell her about your previous lessons and any pieces you have been playing recently.
Share your goals with Mayda during the consultation. Learning for personal enjoyment and preparing for performance involve different priorities, and the lesson plan can reflect the direction you want to take.
